Nepal lifts TikTok ban after app addresses cyber crime concerns

Nepal has lifted its ban on TikTok, which had been in place for over nine months. The ban was initially imposed in November due to concerns about social harmony and misuse of the app. The decision to lift the ban came after TikTok agreed to cooperate with Nepalese authorities to address issues related to crime and content regulation. This includes assisting Nepal's Cyber Bureau with real-time user identification to prevent misuse and block inappropriate content.

The ban had sparked protests, with users criticizing the disruption to their income sources and free speech forums. At the time of the ban, TikTok had around 2.2 million users in Nepal. The lifting of the ban reflects ongoing global debates about TikTok, which faces scrutiny in various countries over national security and privacy concerns.
